Linear Actuators

Linear Actuators

A linear actuator is basically a mechanical device that converts rotary motion to create the motion in a straight line instead. Typically, when an electric motor rotates a lead screw, the ball nut on the shaft will be driven along the thread. The moving direction of the ball nut is determined by the rotation of the electric motor. For many robotic systems, linear actuators with position feedback are required for the precise control of individual axes. To achieve accurate control, linear and rotary encoders are often the feedback sensor of choice, providing precise speed and position data to the motion controller. Linear actuators are applied in every conceivable working environments such as dust, moisture, extreme temperature or with strong vibration. These environmental conditions have to be considered when choosing a suitable feedback sensor.

POSITAL’s Kit Encoders cover a very large number of revolutions based on a Multiturn technology without battery; making the re-homing of the system following power loss, unnecessary. Due to their magnetic principle and robust design, POSITAL’s Kit Encoders are insensitive to dust and moisture; assuring extended service life over time and temperature They can also be assemble easily to linear actuators without requiring near cleanroom conditions. With BiSS C and SSI interface supported, these Kit Encoders are much easier to use and offer high speed response.
