New Line of Optical CANopen Encoders

Introduction

The new line of optical CANopen encoders provides extended software functions and is fully compatible with existing standard and device profiles. It will replace the former versions C2, C5 and C6 of POSITAL's OPTOCODE series and will simplify the product selection offering one unified type key. Samples are available since March 2008. Series production is scheduled for summer 2008.

Major benefits

In addition to previous functions LSS services were introduced offering a more flexible and standardized address configuration. Beyond measured position values, velocity and accelleration values are provided. There is now also a software cam control system with 8 cams. As suggested by the standard DS301 the version of the encoder configuration can now be verified by a unique time stamp that is saved on the encoder whenever the configuration is changed. The control system can check this time stamp at system startup. In addition to a polled mode or cyclic mode an event triggered PDO can be selected. In this case a position value ist transmitted automatically whenever the position is changing. For customers who would like to save data on the encoder there are 4 objects that can be used as a customer specific data storage. A bootloader is now available for certain types of encoders for updates the software via CAN-Bus.
